Silver Leaf Logo

ET-Exotic Tiger (Yellow Blade) Prime

Like a sunken treasure buried at the bottom of the sea, one of the best-kept secrets in the world of angling has been waiting for over a decade to be rediscovered by fisherman. Now, Captain Dan's Erie Dearie Fishing Lures is pleased to announce the return of the Silver Leaf, a spoon with an attitude.

In 1990, Jim McConnville, an avid angler from Avon, Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie, had an idea for a unique fishing lure. His idea was to create a truly versatile bait that would not spin when trolled or retrieved like traditional spoons, but would flutter enticingly at any speed or depth fished. The outcome was the Silver Leaf, a fish-catching phenomena that also proved extremely simple to use.

In the brief period that Jim offered his lure to the public, all it did was win the Empire State/Lake Ontario Trout and Salmon Derby in June of 1992, and the Professional Walleye Trail Championship on Lake Erie in October of the same year. That's two titles on two different Great Lakes for two different species in a five month period by the same lure, a feat previously unheard of.

It's a radical design that makes the Silver Leaf so special. Deep recessed notches in the tail of the slender spoon create dual "fins" which allow the bait to move in a side to side motion attractive to all game fish, but also stabilize the Silver Leaf, and will not allow it to spin like other spoons. The faster the Silver Leaf is fished, the faster the side to side wobble. At very high speeds, the Silver Leaf will porpoise up and down, just like a wounded or frightened baitfish, an action gamefish like walleyes, trout, and salmon find irresistible.

But that's not all. The fins also create a visible air bubble trail for fish to follow straight to the Silver Leaf, creating yet another visual stimulus to trigger strikes. Finally, the Silver Leaf produces a unique harmonic tone and vibration. This is a far-traveling sound that cruising gamefish can pick up through their lateral lines at great distances, allowing them to zero in on the location of the bait until visual contact is made.

Erie Dearie will reintroduce the Silver Leaf for the 2003 fishing season, after a ten-year absence from the shelves of tackle stores and retailers. The Silver Leaf is now manufactured with the same high-quality workmanship that anglers have come to expect from all Erie Dearie products over the past 30 years, and will be available in three sizes and 30 fish-catching colors to match all water types and meet any fishing condition.

Although the Silver Leaf was designed as a trolling bait for suspended fish in big water, it is also highly productive when cast on smaller inland lakes and rivers as well. Hungry gamefish of all species such as walleye, salmon, trout, bass, pike and others will hit this spoon with reckless abandon. After all, they have been waiting ten years for it.

Cooler Water Means Two Things – Slow Down and Tie On An AmBASSaDear

November 2000
by Timothy Lesmeister

If you live in the northern portion of the country you can either feel sorry for yourself because all your fishing is on ice, or you can head south for open water and chase some bass.

There are only three retrieve speeds during this period and they are slow, slower, and barely moving. To be productive in this situation you need lures that can provide that triggering effect even when presented at a snail's pace. Some bass anglers like plastic worms, some like jigs, but if you are a fan of the spinnerbait, you need the AmBASSaDear.

Traditional spinnerbaits are great because they provide some flash, some vibration and some skirt action. You won't get this with plastic baits or jigs when worked slowly. The problem is that traditional spinnerbaits need speed to get it all working. That's not the case with the twin-spin AmBASSaDear.

The AmBASSaDear has two tiny blades that rotate even when the lure is barely moving. The keeled-body design also creates a unique action when using a start/stop presentation. The addition of the live-rubber skirt means you tickle every sense on those bass, and this means they bite.

AmBASSadear - For the Hot Fall Bite

August 2000

by Timothy Lesmeister

The water is cooling and the big bass are moving shallow. Anglers need a lure they can work with precision over the tops and along the edges of the shallow vegetation. That lure is the Erie Dearie AmBASSadear.

To work the shallow weed tops just count the lure down until it reaches the desired depth. One second for each foot. If the tops of the weeds are four feet below the surface count to three and begin the retrieve. The lure is one foot above the vegetation.

A slow reeling presentation on the inside edge of a big weedy flat will keep the lure near the bottom and any bass that have their heads poking out the bottom of the heavy vegetation will think they have an easy meal coming.

The fall bite signals the start of a big bass period. Be on the water with an Erie Dearie AmBASSadear to take full advantage of this opportunity.

AmBASSadear - The Perfect Dog Days Lure

July 2000

by Timothy Lesmeister

Not too many anglers enjoy the tight-lipped reaction they get from bass during the dog days. There is a solution. It's the Erie Dearie AmBASSadear. This twin-spin spinnerbait catches fish even during the toughest bites of Dog Days when a slow precise approach is necessary.

The AmBASSadear is a countdown spinnerbait. The lure drops one foot for every second. This means you can put the AmBASSadear right into the depth where it will work its magic.

The AmBASSadear can be worked at a snail's pace still achieving incredible action. This is due to the two tiny spinners instead of one big blade.

The AmBASSadear can be erratically retrieved. With the jointed body the lure twist and turns when erratically retrieved and this triggers bites. The Erie Dearie AmBASSadear is the ultimate weapon when it comes to the Dog Days bite.

AmBASSadear - The Pivoting Head

June 2000

by Timothy Lesmeister

The Erie Dearie AmBASSadear is a spinnerbait like no other. While the use of twin spinner blades is unique in itself, the pivoting head gives this lure action that no other spinnerbait can duplicate.

Use the AmBASSadear like a jig. With the tiny blade's ability to spin at the slightest speed a start-stop approach wil still generate flash. The pivoting head provides body action that no fish has ever seen. It looks like a big minnow chasing two smaller minnows and the big bass will strike the lure recklessly.

AmBASSadear - Why the Twin Spin?

May 2000

by Timothy Lesmeister

The Erie Dearie AmBASSadear is a twin-spinner style of spinnerbait. While twin-spins used to be common, these days they are hard to come by due to the effort required in manufacturing them. Is the twin spinner really worth it? It is if you want to catch fish.

It is now common knowledge that fish become conditioned to lures, especially spinnerbaits. With this in mind you realize that many bass have been caught by spinnerbaits, some probably more than once. These fish will be reluctant to hit a standard spinnerbait, even when conditions are perfect for this lure. Substitute an AmBASSadear and the conditioning factor no longer pertains.

The two tiny blades rotate with the slightest amount of speed. The jointed lead head provides a fish attracting action when the lure is retrieved with a start-stop action, and the live-rubber skirt enhances the ability of the lure to trigger strikes.

AmBASSadear - A Productive Twin-Spin Option

April, 2000

by Timothy Lesmeister

What ever happened to those twin-spin spinnerbaits that used to be all over the sporting goods shelves? The twin-spin spinnerbait was extremely productive for bass and pike, but they just seemed to have disappeared. "They're extremely tough to make," says Erie Dearie's Dan Galbincea. "A single wire spinnerbait is simple to manufacture and package. A dual spinnerbait takes much longer to craft and this shortens the profit margin. Manufactures just quit making them, even though they caught lots of bass."

So why does Erie Dearie continue to make them? "The AmBASSadear grew out of demand for the Dearie Twin," said Galbincea. "The lure has been part of the Erie Dearie line since day one, and even though it was designed for walleyes, bass anglers discovered it really worked well for bass. When we slowed production we received so many calls from bass fisherman we decided to start making them again. We added some great new colors and a skirt and now we call them the AmBASSadear. Bass anglers are grabbing them off the shelves faster than we can make them, so we decided to keep them part of the Erie Dearie lineup."

Erie Dearie's New Bass Lure-the AmBASSadear- is a Winner

March, 2000

By Timothy Lesmeister

Anglers are discovering the Erie Dearie AmBASSadear is a real winner when it comes to early-season bass. A pair of anglers who were given prototype baits before the lure hit the market on January, 2000 have already reported winning local club tournaments this year with the lures. Many of the anglers who were chosen to try out the AmBASSadear during the 1999 came back with glowing reports about the ability of the lure to catch bass when nothing else they tried proved successful.

The AmBASSadear by Erie Dearie is a twin-spin spinnerbait with weight-extended, jointed keel-head body. The lure comes packaged with a live rubber skirts, but it can also be used with plastic twister-tail styled grub bodies, auger-tailed worm bodies, and even live bait.

The AmBASSadear comes in many colors and can be purchased in a 1/2-oz. version. Anglers will discover the tiny silver blades on the AmBASSadear will spin with the slightest movement of the lure and this creates a triggering action that bass find impossible to resist.

Erie Dearie Unveils New Bass Lure

January, 2000

by Timothy Lesmeister

While many anglers know Erie Dearie for their enormously popular weight-forward spinner, soon fisherman and woman will be using Erie Dearie to describe one of the most productive bass lures on the market: The AmBASSadear.

The AmBASSadear by Erie Dearie is a twin-spin spinnerbait with a weight-extended, jointed keel-head body. The jointed nature of the head and body creates a tremendous action that no fish has ever seen before. This lack of a conditioning factor makes the AmBASSadear one of the most productive spinnerbaits on the market today.

The AmBASSadear comes in many colors and can be purchased in the 1/2-oz. version. Anglers will discover the tiny silver blades on the AmBASSadear will spin with the slightest movement of the lure and this creates a triggering action that bass find impossible to resist.
